The Truth About Youth
My second project with Diversity Hub in Leicester, gave Young People the skills to say what they would really like to say to adults. The project was completed with a launch party at BBC Radio Leicester in June 2010. It was a lively series of four workshops as young people from 13 to 21 told their stories. Many of them are compelling, revealing and sometimes painful. They will be displayed on the Diversity Hub website

A series of stories told to illustrate a report from the Yorkshire and Humberside Faiths Forum called Grace and Generosity. Watch the stories
Engenious Stories
The workshops in the Ingenious series funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering have been completed. The stories are on the digistoriesuk YouTube Channel. Engineers created their stories in workshops held in Salford, Southampton, Birmingham, York and Bradford.
East Dorset Arts Development
I spent most of the month of June 2009 and some of September 2009 running workshops in Wimborne Minster and Verwood. Twelve trainers were trained and seven young people told their stories. If you live in the area you could join one of their workshops – look out for these events.
No More Bullying
A series of three workshops at Diversity Hub in Leicester for young people called No More Bullying. Funded by MediaBox and supported byBBC Radio Leicester, these workshops were held in late 2008. Young people between 13 and 19 told their stories which were broadcast by the BBC, formed the focus of displays at the radio station in Anti Bullying Week and are now being distributed on DVD. Culture Shock VIEW Stories now online
Culture Shock is a large scale digital storytelling project in the North East involving Tyne and Wear Museums. I trained the teams that is delivering the workshops. Watch out for Culture Shock events if you live in the North East – there are free workshops on offer.
Riding Lights Summer School
I facilitated a digital storytelling workshop at this residential event in Harrogate in August. The module was called multistory.net and I was working with a traditional storyteller. Everyone created a digital story and learned how to tell a story to a live audience. We had a great performance event in the drama theatre towards the end of the course mixing live and digital storytelling. It was well received. Stories now on digistoriesuk YouTube channel
Stories of the Sixties June/July 2008
The exciting decade of The Beatles, Pop Art and discovery was the focus of a digital storytelling project in York. In a community project at Canon Lee School, year 9 history students worked with people who live in nearby Guardian Court to explore memories of York in the 60s. The storycircle took place at The Castle Museum in York which has recently installed a gallery called The Sixties. This inter-generational storytelling project ended with a show in The Cube at Canon Lee School on July 15th.
Kirklees Carers
A workshop held at Carers Gateway in Huddersfield for people who devote their time to caring for others. The stories they told were very moving accounts of dedicated service to close members of their families and about the support they receive from the staff of Carers Gateway. Their films were shown at Kirklees Carer of Year 2008 during Carers Week in June. You can watch them here
London’s Transport Museum
I ran a training trainers workshop for curators at the London Transport Museum in March. This was in preparation for a digital storytelling project at the museum. If your interested keep an eye on their website. Update: Jan 2009 – new stories uploaded to Facebook
Sound Matters
Workshops to explore stories about the importance of sound in our lives in partnership with the Acoustics Department of Salford University. Funding has now been secured for another series of these successful workshops. The stories from the first series can be viewed here.
New Life stories
A workshop for members of Harrogate New Life Church. These six faith stories can be viewed on the church website.
Durham Digital Stories
Digital Stories created in five workshops around County Durham in early 2007 were shown in Screen 1 of the Gala Cinema in Durham. Twenty six films made in workshops in Durham, Stanley, Ferryhill and Newton Aycliffe. In partnership with The Gala Theatre, Durham and BBC Tees. Supported by Lottery Heritage funding.

TimeChange
Billed as “A Unique Theatrical Experience”, Timechange was a fascinating experiment in Intergenerational Digital Storytelling using live performance and Digital Storytelling in the same event. In Partnership with Riding Lights Theatre Company. Watch the films here.

This workshop for students was run with the BBC in Leeds. A series of digital stories were made in the BBC Leeds all_together_now new media centre in Primrose High School in the city .
BBC Children in Need
Two workshops for young people involved in projects funded by BBC Children in Need. The aim was to make digital stories for the BBC Local TV pilot that is running in the West Midlands. The workshops were held with Coventry Young Carers and the Bangladeshi Children’s Project in Walsall. Ten young people made nine stories all of which were broadcast on the BBC local TV in Coventry and Warwickshire and the Black Country.
A story, told by 15 year Neema Begum of Walsall, was broadcast on BBC Newsround on July 7th 2006, the first anniversary of the London Bombings. Her story, Right vs Wrong is about how close she came to a terrorist bomb.
Apple Teachers Institute
I delivered a keynote address at this event staged by Apple Computers in Malvern. April 19th 2006.
Storygen
An inter-generational storytelling workshop for BBC Local Television in the West Midlands. The workshop was held in partnership with Lyng Hall Community School in Coventry. Five students worked with an older member of their family to tell a story in ninety seconds. The films were shown on the BBC Coventry and Warwickshire Local Television pilot.
Islam Stories
These digital stories were made in a gruelling one day workshop at the Islamic Foundation in Leicester. The workshop was commissioned by BBC English Regions to be shown at a conference for BBC Local Radio faith producers and media relations staff from Muslim Communities in England.Watch the films on the BBC Leicester site.
Stories for Black History Month
A radio storytelling workshop held in the BBC Radio Leicester Open Centre. Ten stories created for Black History Month in October 2005. Hear them.
